This subspecialty certification will assist nurses working with acutely/critically ill adult cardiac surgery patients in the first 48 hours post-operatively. Learning Objectives
At the completion of this eLearning, participants should be able to:
Exam & Cardiac Surgery Overview- Discuss normal blood flow through the myocardium
- Review coronary perfusion and walls each coronary artery supplies
- Discuss the difference between on and off pump coronary artery bypass grafting
- Discuss the use of the pulmonary artery catheter & interventions to manage complications
- Discuss the hemodynamic findings of different shock states (Cardiogenic, hypovolemic, Vasoplegic)
- Describe vasoactive infusions including vasopressors, positive & negative inotropes and vasodilators and the effects on hemodynamics
- Discuss the use of mechanical circulatory support post-surgery
- Discuss strategies for bleeding reversal & transfusions
- Describe post operative MI, cardiogenic shock, cardiac tamponade, heart failure, dysrhythmias & other complications
- Discuss the differences between inferior, right ventricular, anterior, lateral & posterior wall MIs + pharmacology utilized with ACS
- Differentiate valvular regurgitation (insufficiency) and stenosis
- Discuss treatment modalities, including transcatheter & surgical options for aortic, mitral & tricuspid valve dysfunction
- Describe management of aortic dissections and Type A & B Aortic Aneurysms
- Discuss post operative vascular complications
- Discuss post operative glucose, airway & respiratory management
